Join our Garden Ambassadors Team!

One of our amazing parents, Meghan McGinty, has been working through the summer to establish a native plant butterfly habitat and we’ll be holding a native plant gardening day on September 27th from 9:30-12, aided by excited “garden ambassadors” from the Upper School & Primary Montessori. Want to join us? Sign up at the front desk!

Here is the garden late September of the 2019 school year. Our volunteers did some prep work to make sure the garden would be ready the next day!

Here it is! Very special thanks to Meghan Mcginty, parent volunteers and our classroom “garden ambassadors” for starting our natural butterfly habitat garden!

NAEYC Here We Come!

In November, I will be joined by Mr. Garcia and Ms. Ibrahim at the annual conference for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Since 2018, Village Green has been a candidate school for accreditation and have been refining our school program and operations to meet the standards set forth by NAEYC so we can have a successful site visit in 2020 and achieve the initial 5-year accreditation. NAEYC sets the ‘gold standard’ for accreditation when it comes to best practices in Early Childhood Education and we are excited to attend this important professional development opportunity. This year the conference will be in Nashville, TN. Last year the conference was conveniently located in Washington, DC and several administrators attended and brought back some valuable perspectives that we’ve used to inform our practice. This year we will focus our conference attendance on accreditation process support and curricular development, two areas that we as a school leadership team has been actively engaged in on a daily basis this school year.

Our First Snow!

One of the most common feelings as we walk back into school after a long Winter Break is one of renewed energy. After late morning naps and not following such a rigid routine the school day requires, our body resets itself and we come back to school with renewed energy and focus to tackle our goals. I feel this way myself and look forward to what excitement the year 2020 has in store for Village Green and our amazing families and staff. We were welcomed back to school with Spring-like weather that quickly turned to slush and snow. As I write this I watch from my office window as the heavy snow falls, making the roads and sidewalks slippery. Parents are steadily coming in and out of the building for an early departure and it is clear that Winter is near. As one who drives in the snow it’s not that much fun sitting in traffic but for our children who see the snow as an invitation to play, it’s magical. Hopefully this is the first of many snows for our children to enjoy.
